An updated name! Moving forward, Defend DC is now We Defend DC. This change reflects what’s always been true: We Defend DC is a collective effort. Many organizations, groups, and community members are collaborating and together, We Defend DC.

We Defend DC, are weavers, strengthening the left by helping grassroots organizations, collectives, nonprofits, and mutual aid groups connect and collaborate. The new logo reflects this idea: we’re stronger when we’re woven together. It also references the DC flag with its two horizontal red stripes.

Because Black and immigrant communities (especially Latine immigrants) are most impacted by DC’s occupation and by ICE, the new color palette allows us to reference the pan-African colors with the black, red-orange, and teal-green colors and also draws on the bright colors found in a Mexican falsa blanket. Inspired by the embroidery in Guatemalan huipiles, our visual system includes hand-stitched elements. Weaving, fabric, threads, and braids appear throughout the brand to symbolize how We Defend DC binds movement actors together across the city.
Collage-style graphics and typography reflect the DIY spirit, creativity, and ingenuity that have always powered movements for justice.
